The first certified turboprop Autothrottle

THRUSTSENSE® AUTOTHROTTLE FOR CITATION CJ2, CJ3, CJ4 & M2

The ThrustSense® Autothrottle system for Citation CJ2, CJ3, CJ4 and M2 series aircraft outfitted with Pro Line 21, Pro Line Fusion and Garmin avionics is expected to be certified in the coming months.

The IS&S ThrustSense® Autothrottle is a full regime system that allows the pilot to automatically control the power setting of the engines and speed targets from takeoff to landing phases of flight, including go-around.  The autothrottle system is engaged for takeoff and advances the Throttle Levers to the takeoff detent.  After the five-minute takeoff power setting the throttles are automatically repositioned to the climb MCT detent.

ThrustSense® provides critical VMCa protection, eliminating ‘low-and-slow’ challenges associated with twin Jet operations enabling automatic control of engine power settings guarding the power levels within safe limits. ThrustSense will position the Throttle Levers with precision and without “hunting” for a target air speed.

ThustSense® manages engine power throughout all phases of flight and eliminating over/under speed situations, further reducing pilot workload.

IS&S’s Integrated Standby Unit enables full autothrottle control interface as well as full standby suite capability.

ThrustSense® Features and Benefits
  • VMCa Protection
  • Over/Under Speed Protection
  • Automatically moves the throttle levers into and out of the detents
  • Standby Capability
  • Reduced Pilot Workload
  • Increased Situational Awareness
  • Stabilized Approaches
  • Symmetrical Engine Power Management
  • Controls Speed and Engine Thrust
  • Minimal Force Required to Override Power Lever
  • Short Installation Down Time

THRUSTSENSE® AUTOTHROTTLE FOR KING AIR

The IS&S ThrustSense® Autothrottle is the first ever full regime autothrottle system to be certified for the King Air

ThrustSense® allows the pilot to automatically control the power setting of the engines from takeoff to landing phases of flight, including go-around.  ThrustSense® computes and controls power levels reducing pilot workload.

When operating in ThrustSense®’s manual mode the pilot maintains unhindered control of the aircraft’s thrust with the throttles.  ThrustSense® activates to protect against over-torque, over-temperature, excessive airspeed or under speed stall and then returns to monitoring mode.  Electronically adjustable detents covering the entire flight envelope can be programmed to emulate NextGen aircraft operation.

ThrustSense® provides critical VMCa protection, as well as FADEC-like engine protection, eliminating two of the greatest ‘low-and-slow’ challenges associated with twin engine operations.  ThrustSense® enables automatic control of engine power settings by precisely computing and adjusting to the maximum safe power levels.

IS&S’s Standby Display Unit enables full auto throttle control interface.  There are no additional structural modifications needed (other than replacing the existing standby with the Standby Display Unit), thus aircraft downtime is minimized.

ThrustSense® is standard equipment on the Beechcraft King Air 260 and 360 and is the first and only certified auto throttle for King Air B200 and B300 aircraft.  Additionally, this system has the same equipment and ease of installation for Pilatus PC 12 aircraft, as a modified single-engine system.

ThrustSense® Aircraft Protection
  • Flight envelope & engine protection
  • VMCa protection down to stall warning utilizing maximum safe power on operating engine
  • Airspeed, mach and torque control
  • Eliminates inadvertent throttle migration
  • Coupled FMS VNAV
  • MEL relief/ on condition maintenance
  • Guard Mode (optional feature) allows the pilot to fly manually while incorporating all protection modes.
ThrustSense® Benefits
  • Reduced pilot workload
  • Air transport quality
  • Increased situational awareness
  • Stabilized approaches
  • Reduced cabin noise, increased cabin comfort
  • Symmetrical engine power management
  • Precise capture of speed target
  • Minimal additional force required to over-ride power lever
  • Short installation downtime

THRUSTSENSE® AUTOTHROTTLE FOR PILATUS PC-12

The IS&S Autothrottle (A/T), ThrustSense®, is a full regime autothrottle, from takeoff to landing phases of flight including go around, in addition the system incorporates engine and speed exceedance protection.

Think FADEC functionality with low and high speed protection for the PC-12. ThrustSense® is an elegant solution that improves safety, performance, is high value, light weight, installs with minimal downtime and is a mature and proven System. The engine exceedance protection will pay for the system with one hot section inspection and repair.

When operating in ThrustSense®’s manual mode the pilot maintains unhindered control of the aircraft’s thrust with the throttles.  ThrustSense activates to protect against over-torque, over-temperature, excessive airspeed or under speed stall and then returns to monitoring mode.  Electronically adjustable detents covering entire flight envelope can be programmed to emulate NextGen aircraft operation.

ThrustSense® ensures stabilized approaches by accurately controlling speeds in the descent.  During situations of high pilot workload, ThrustSense® prevents the airplane from getting dangerously slow or fast and protects against over-torque and over-temp enhancing the safety and capability of your PC-12.

Control of the revolutionary autothrottle is housed in an easy to install Flight Instrument Standby that provides standby functionality on a high resolution LCD display. The optimized design for retrofit allows for no structural modifications to the existing throttle quadrant.

ThrustSense® Features and Benefits
  • FADEC like functionality & protection
  • Over/Under Speed Protection
  • LifeGuard™ Engine Protection
  • Hybrid mode allows pilots to fly manually with engine protection engaged
  • Electronically adjustable detents covering PC-12 flight envelope
  • Electronically adjustable throttle brake
  • Vs, Vmo Limit Protection
